Also Henri Gaudier-Brzeska,Vorticist sculptor, KIA Neuville-St.-Vaast, June 5, 1915. He was the subject of the Ken Russell film "Savage Messiah" and his works are in many museums.
Charles F. Scholle, American artist who served as a corporal in the 49th Machine Gun Battalion, 17th Division, Camp Beauregard, LA. He served stateside during the war (the 17th was in the process of forming when the war ended). Years ago I purchased his pocket New Testament with the above ID written inside. It was only with the use of the Internet a few years ago that I found out who he was. Pete
Allan Brooks, ornithological painter and illustrator, served with the Canadian forces at the Western Front as a sniper and in England as a sniper instructor.
He used his rank of Major through the rest of his life, so he is often cited as Major Allan Brooks, as if it was his first name! His work was published in National Geographic, when he took over a major assignment left incomplete by the death of Louis Agassiz Fuertes.
