Regular readers of Roads to the Great War know that we have a dedicated band of regular contributors. One of these is my friend Cyril Mazansky, who is a man of many parts, and one of his special areas of interest is World War I cigarette cards. We recently received a review copy of Cyril's new book on that subject, The First World War on Cigarette and Trade Cards: An Illustrated and Descriptive History. It's absolutely a delight — not just a book on a collectible — but in the aggregate a history of the war in visual form. Every aspect of the war is covered: uniforms, aircraft, weaponry, cartoons, photos from the battlefield, notable figures, and much more. Each card has a photo or well-done illustration on one side and a brief, but informative, description on the back. Our literary editor, David Beer, is preparing a review, but we wanted to let you know that Cyril Mazansky's enjoyable work is available now.
