He saved France during Verdun. It's kind of unbelievable he did not get command when Joffre was relieved.<br /><br />He might have been a bit too pessimistic (I remember he said we'd be lucky to take Montfaucon by Christmas - we took it on the 2nd day) - but he was a good commander for that war.CJhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12920046092004136754noreply@blogger.com
