This series will run every Friday on Roads to the Great War through its completion.

  1. Great idea for a series.

So this one is precursors to the war, dating back a century?

  2. One could go on dreaming up key events for ever of course, but surely one that had a long reach forward was the guaranteeing of Belgium's territorial integrity by the Great Powers in 1820, I think it was. Honouring this undertaking ("Poor Little Belgium!") was an important propaganda ploy in generating popular UK support in 1914 for entering the war.
