Of the living; but the dead returning lightly dance.

Comparing America's Great War Experience to Other Modern Wars

  1. Someone, along the way, pointed out that the majority of the US WW1 casualties were reported from July to October, 1918 - Four bloody months where as my great aunt who lost her fiance said- the telegrams saying this boy or that had died or was missing seemed an endless flood. Friend after friend serving in the local Guard units or in the national divisions would be reported dead, missing or wounded. At the same time the Spanish flu stuck and tens of thousands more died of disease. Even with victory the black shroud of all that death tainted everything and women dressed in Morning black were a common sight.
