Of the living; but the dead returning lightly dance.

Bad Luck for the Name Von Spee in South America

The Admiral Before His Demise

Both Admiral Maximilian Johannes Maria Hubertus, Reichsgraf von Spee of the the Imperial German Navy and his namesake, the pocket battleship Admiral Graf Spee, perished in South American waters.

Scuttled

The admiral died in the 1914 Battle of the Falklands going down with his flagship of his East Asiatic Squadron, SMS Scharnhorst. Two of his sons and almost 2,000 German sailors also perished in the battle.  His namesake ship was scuttled 17 December 1939 after being cornered by the Royal Navy at Montevideo.
