State-by-State: The Manpower Sources of the U.S. Army in the Great War

I found this interesting graphic in the vast amount of information provided by the World War  One Centennial Commission (link below).


  1. I wonder how closely this corresponds to the total population of each state at the time.

  2. Also interesting to note how the Union States dominate the total. We're the Confederate States still resentful after 50 years? Or did the population not exist in those States for more support?

    1. Most Confederate States had small populations.
